The other morning at church
The women all wore long Ankara skirts and long sleeve shirts
The pastor is known to dislike girls who show their bodies
He said they distract the weak sinners who are trying to find Jesus
Like Bathsheba who seduced David by bathing
Why didn’t she hide when she bathing so David wouldn’t watch her when he got on the roof?
One man sneaked in and sat in the front pew
Sister Grace went to him and whispered
Brother, this seat is for the honorable
He stood up and hurried to the back
In time to catch the pastor roaring,
We are all equal in the presence of the Lord!
Turn to your neighbor and say amen, he went on
The pianist turned to the choir leader and touched her waist
Is that the right way to say amen?
Maybe this is the most reassuring way to say it
The preacher said God only approves sex between a man and a woman
Those other people will face the wrath of God!
Stay away from them!
The audience in unison, hallelujah!
Brother Peter then came to make announcements
Let’s pray for sister Jane who was violated by bad men
The congregation murmured, shaking their heads
Also pray for those young men to repent and find God
Remember, he is a forgiving God
Heads bowed in prayer
Hands rose in devotion.
